The Nifty Pharma index closed 0.97 per cent up at 14458.5.

Select midcap and smallcap stocks stole the complete spotlight during the session. TD Power System, Zen Technologies, Vodafone Idea, Kitex Garments, Tinplate were among the stocks which posted double digit gains. Bank of India was the only big name, losing more than 5 per cent.

Airtel was battered by the competitive heat that Reliance Jio had brought to India’s telecom space in 2016. Somewhere around the December quarter of 2019, Bharti Airtel set on a path to turn the tables on Reliance Jio. The company has not looked back since.
